Downtown Grimsby, in collaboration with the Grimsby Public Library, is excited to launch a festive StoryWalk throughout the downtown area. From December 6 to 27, 2025, families are invited to enjoy the holiday tale “How Does Santa Go Down the Chimney?” written by Mac Barnett and illustrated by Jon Klassen. The StoryWalk will be available all day, with panels displayed in the storefront windows of participating downtown businesses. We encourage residents and visitors to explore the area, and support local shops along the way.

A StoryWalk is an interactive outdoor reading experience that places pages from a children’s book along a walking route. As families follow the path from panel to panel, they can read the story together while enjoying fresh air, exercise, and time spent discovering their community. StoryWalks promote early literacy, physical activity, and meaningful family moments, making them a perfect addition to the holiday season.

“How Does Santa Go Down the Chimney?” by the beloved, multi-award-winning duo Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen offers a playful look at a timeless holiday question. The book explores a child’s many imaginative theories about how Santa makes his way into homes, whether he goes down the chimney headfirst or feetfirst, slips under a door like a sheet of paper, or even pours himself through a faucet. With Barnett’s signature deadpan humour and Klassen’s charmingly witty illustrations, the story blends the ridiculous with the surprisingly plausible. This New York Times best-selling team delivers a festive tale that families are sure to love.
While enjoying the StoryWalk, visitors are encouraged to stop into downtown businesses. Warm up with a drink, enjoy a meal, pick up some holiday gifts, and explore the unique shops and services that make Downtown Grimsby special.
